Carlton Livingston - Trodding Through The Jungle

This is singer Carlton Livingston's best know tune. Sadly, under-recorded and under-appreciated, Carlton Livingston was one of my favorite early dancehall singers – he combined a sweet, emotional voice with the tuffness of the dancehall to create a tone that stuck deep to those rub a dub riddims and made you wind up your hip. "Trodding Through The Jungle" is a ganja man tune – an ode to the smokers and the smugglers. The tune rides a version of Studio One's "You Should Have Known" riddim employing a blazing horn riff and a hypnotic bass line. Carlton comes into to the mix with such presence that this tune about smuggling weed through the jungles of Jamaica becomes a haunting and paranoid epic, a Rastafarian "Ulysses". One listen and you are hooked. For a ruthless mix that will mash up any dance, mix "Trodding Through The Jungle" with Tenor Saw's "Jah Guide & Protect Me." If you do that, you will have every Rasta in the place plying you with weed and Red Stripe for the rest of the night. Trust me on this one! VG -- Vocal goes into dub and the Flip side is an uncredited DJ tune on a different riddim
